The world’s most prestigious chefs, together in San Sebastián

Save the Oceans, Feed the World / Oceana International

Save the Oceans, Feed the World is the latest major effort by the NGO Oceana to influence global fishing policy by promoting sustainable fishing, with a twofold goal: ocean restoration and food security for the planet.

To mark the official launch of the campaign, Oceana brought together the world’s 18 most prestigious chefs for a historic photo taken on 17 March 2015 in San Sebastián. Chefs such as Ferran Adrià (elBulli Foundation), René Redzepi (Noma) and Joan Roca (El Celler de Can Roca) who, according to Oceana CEO Andy Sharpless, “are the most suitable campaign ambassadors to carry Oceana’s message to a population whose livelihood comes from the oceans”.

The organisation also launched the campaign website perfectprotein.oceana.org and several publications, translated into various languages, on the state of the oceans and setting out priorities aimed at securing food supplies and protecting marine diversity through responsible fishing of certain wild seafood species. The campaign website also features a short documentary directed by Jorge Martínez, based on Andy Sharpless’s book of the same name The Perfect Protein, a film that reflects the chefs’ passion for seafood and their support for measures to conserve ocean biodiversity.
