Lives in progress
How the campaign came together.

The NGO Paz y Desarrollo (PyD) asked us for an awareness campaign to shed light on the reality of millions of women in Asia who are victims of gender inequality. And we would do it in the best possible way: by telling their life stories or, in other words, by publishing their biographies.
But why biographies? Simply because they are the format that records exceptional lives, examples of personal and professional development – lives radically opposed to those of women in Asia, anonymous and deemed of no interest. This led us to an unprecedented act of protest: the first series of unfinished biographies, a reflection of reality whose blank pages symbolise a future still to be built.
And so ‘Lives in Progress’ was born: a collection of five biographies of five women from different countries, role models in their communities for their tireless fight for women’s human development. Their biographers: five of the most prestigious names in Spanish literature and journalism – Carmen Posadas, Mara Torres, Almudena Grandes, Rosa María Calaf and Ángeles Caso – who wrote the first chapter of each biography and led a solidarity movement with a special call to action: ‘Biographers Wanted to Complete Lives’.
